I’ve banged the monkey a lot on this one, I know, but now that Obama has my back, I’m going to hit it one more time. Facebook privacy, are you sure you’re sharing the right things?
As part of his back to school circuit last week, the President addressed the propensity to share in online networks and the implications it could have for the future. Here’s the quote:
“First of all, I want everybody here to be careful about what you post on Facebook, because in the YouTube age, whatever you do, it will be pulled up again later somewhere in your life… And when you’re young, you make mistakes and you do some stupid stuff. And I’ve been hearing a lot about young people who — you know, they’re posting stuff on Facebook, and then suddenly they go apply for a job and somebody has done a search.”
So lock it down as google latitude, foursquare and other location based tracking explode there will be more to share, and keep private, than ever.
