Spamming for Anchor Text Link Love

I’ve started to get an email lately asking for “link exchanges.” Site owners want me to post an entry on my site linking to their site with a specific keyword. In return, they’ll do the same.

For more on the importance of anchor links, check out yesterday’s entry at The Blog Herald.

Simply put, anchor text is the text in a link.

Anchor text is important because search engines use it in their algorithms to determine their rankings. Here’s how it works. Search engines are constantly checking the anchor text of your site. Each time you get a link from another site, the search engines will note the anchor text of that link. There are right ways and wrong ways to go about publicizing your site and getting traffic. Back door deals and spam requests is one of them, growing your product organically with word of mouth is another.
